About Dr. Lanzer
William L. Lanzer, MD, MMS, FACS
Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon
Over the course of the last twenty-four years, Dr. William L. Lanzer has performed over 5,000 hip operations and 4,000 knee operations. After graduating from his fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery at the Mayo Clinic, he accepted a full-time faculty appointment at the University of Washington Medical School.
As a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, he taught many of the orthopedic surgeons practicing in the Seattle area. In 1991, he was called up to active duty from the Air Force Reserve for Desert Storm. He served as an orthopedic surgeon and flight surgeon at Travis Air Force Base California and in Saudi Arabia.
Returning to Seattle in November of 1991, he joined Orthopedics International, a world renowned group at the Providence Medical Center. He was Chief of Orthopedics at Providence for six years and made many changes to streamline orthopedic care at Providence-Swedish Medical Center
Orthopedics International expanded to the Eastside, opening offices at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center. Currently, Dr. Lanzer performs over 200 hip operations and 150 knee operations a year.
Dr. Lanzer has been a consultant for several orthopedic companies. As a consultant, he has helped design new hip replacements and has been instrumental in the technique of hip resurfacing and unicompartmental knee replacement. He has done extensive research over the last twenty years on the treatment of arthritis.
Dr. Lanzer has received recognition as one of the top 100 knee surgeons in the country as awarded by the Consumer Research Council in 2006.
